Ali MacLean participated in the Antaeus Playwrights Lab end of year play extravaganza. Each playwright selected was assigned the theme ‘Now or Never’, and instructed to write a ten-minute play.
MacLean created the short play The Point featuring Angela Sauer, Emily Goss, Luis Kelly-Duarte, and Aaron Lyons. The Point is a dark story about a group of friends at a makeshift party in the Massachusetts woods and deals with class, toxic masculinity, and violence. When Murph and Scanlan join lovebirds Teenie and Lugo at The Point for a debaucherous party, they expect to have a good time. At first they miss the couple’s underlying tensions, but soon realize that the night is about to take a deadly turn.
The event was held virtually due to the pandemic. The evening featured nine playwrights, showcasing the lab members’ writing and the company members’ acting.
