Today it was announced that Ali was selected as a 1in4 Coalition writer, an organization which is an intersectional coalition of disabled creatives currently working in Hollywood focused on long-term institutional shifts to increase employment and authentic representation of disabled people. She is one of 14 writers chosen in an extremely competitive process.
Some of the co-founders include Eryn Brown of Management 360, Sarah Fischer at Shondaland, David Ours at Deaf West Theater, and Ryan O’Connell show creator of the Netflix series Special.
the 1in4 Writers Coalition was created to help offset the enormous challenges disabled writers face due to Hollywood’s inaccessibility by supporting writers with access to feedback, resources, and relationships, which are key to career building. NBCUniversal has partnered with 1in4, which furthers its commitment to disability inclusion.
MacLean who lost several years of her career due to a chronic illness will have the support of a mentor and will work on a specified writing project for one year.
