MacLean’s ‘Those People’ Opens EST/LA Winterfest

Ali MacLean’s new play, Those People, a harrowing look at violence in school in the south, was chosen for the EST/LA Theater Company Winterfest Festival, and for the second year in a row, opened up the festival.

The short play, directed by MacLean, and starring Cherish Monique Duke, Micheal McShane, and Ali MacLean is an unsettling thriller with a twist.

Those People is a Southern Gothic tale about bullying, parenting and racism in small town Georgia. New school administrator Ms. Hicks, has called Justin’s mother and grandfather to her office to discuss Justin’s troubling behavior. She wasn’t expecting to have to deal with theirs. What starts out as a tense exchange between a father and daughter on how to best parent a wayward child, turns into something much more morally insidious, and possibly inescapable, as the tables turn.

The play was performed at EST/LA to a sold out crowd and rave reviews.
