MacLean’s THE POINT Recognized in Smith & Kraus 2025 Anthologies

MacLean will be published in the Smith & Kraus ‘Best of’ anthologies for the 5th time.

According to her post, two monologues from her celebrated play THE POINT will be published in the Smith & Kraus 2025 ‘Best of’ anthologies.

A monologue from the character “Murph” will appear in Best of Men’s and one from “Joyce” in Best of Women’s.

THE POINT is a dark and comedic thriller that is based on a true story – a murder in the woods amongst ‘friends’, and has been called ‘River’s Edge meets Mare of Easttown‘.

Murph and Scanlan join lovebirds Lugo and Teenie for a debaucherous party deep in the Massachusetts woods. At first, they miss the underlying tension between the couple but then realize that the night is about to take a deadly turn…

Told out of sequence, it follows a townie love triangle with a college student. This script is set in Western Massachusetts, behind the “Tofu Curtain,” an invisible line dividing quaint Ivy League towns, from seedy ones. On a macro level this play, which is loosely based on the Madison Sparrow and Slenderman cases, explores economic inequity, toxic love, violence, and Opiod abuse.

MacLean’s play was chosen for The Road Theatre’s 2024 Summer Playwrights Festival.

It was also developed at the former Antaeus Playwrights Lab and the EST/LA Playwrights Unit, where it was performed at the EST Winterfest and was named Pick of the Playwrights Unit. MacLean also appeared in this version.

The play is currently being adapted into a screenplay.

The Smith & Kraus 2025 anthologies will be released this fall.
